SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP

U.S. universities receive billions of dollars in public funding each year for research that advances our understanding of the world and improves our lives. Yet market and institutional failures often keep academic discoveries from reaching the people they could help. Through my service, I work to address those failures and turn scientific inventions into societal impact through entrepreneurship.

That mission led me to found Endless Frontier Labs (EFL), a nine-month program for pre-seed through Series A startups built on breakthrough science and technology. EFL brings together business leaders, investors, and leading scientists to de-risk novel science and help founders build, finance, and scale their companies. The program is free and takes no equity. It now attracts promising science-based startups from around the world. Since 2019, its 390 graduate companies have collectively raised more than $3 billion. In 2025, EFL received the Prix Galien USA Award for Best Incubator/Accelerator.

EFL is integrated with the two-semester MBA course I teach on science and technology entrepreneurship. Each student works with an EFL startup, gaining direct exposure to cutting-edge science and to the work of scaling and financing a company. Many go on to roles in those startups and the wider innovation ecosystem.

I also serve as Chief Mentor at NYU Stern’s Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship, which I led as Academic Director from 2018 to 2023. Since 1984, the Center has been NYU’s hub for entrepreneurship, helping NYU-affiliated founders take their ideas from concept to company and beyond. Across the University, I serve on the NYU Innovation Council, which assesses intellectual property and advises academic inventors across NYU’s schools and campuses, and on the advisory board of NYU Langone Health’s Biomedical Entrepreneurship Program. My service has been recognized with NYU Stern’s Faculty Leadership Award for “exceptional leadership through service.”

ACADEMIC SERVICE

I serve as an Associate Editor at Management Science, where I handle manuscripts on entrepreneurship and innovation. I previously served as Senior Editor at Organization Science (2015–2022) and Coeditor at the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy (2020–2023). I review grant proposals for funding bodies including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Kauffman Foundation. I have judged awards such as the Kauffman Dissertation Award and the Academy of Management’s Best Student Paper Awards, and I have reviewed book proposals for Stanford University Press, Oxford University Press, and Palgrave Macmillan. I co-organize NYU Stern’s annual Economics of Strategy conference, and I have advised or served on the dissertation committees of more than ten PhD students, now on faculty at institutions including Wharton, Columbia, HEC Paris, and the University of Pennsylvania.
